Unable to import .ova-File from IPVA with VirtualBox
Hello,

after I recently experienced some issues in an testing enviroment with VM Ware Player (random crashes when rebooting the IPVA, which where not related to a problem with the IPVA itself) I decided to switch over to Virtual Box, since the IPVA is avaiable as .ova-File.

Unfortunatly I was not able to import the decompressed .ova-File into VirtualBox. I tried importing via the menu wizard but I only receive an error, that the file could not be imported (see attachment Error.png).

I am using the latest version from VirtualBox and IPVA (V12r2 sr2). Did anyone experience the same problems using IPVA with VirtualBox ?

Best Regards

Danny

Re: Unable to import .ova-File from IPVA with VirtualBox
Hello Danny,

I solved this issue

1. Extracting the files in the OVA file
2. Files included 4 .vmdk files
3. Created a NEW VM with the characteristics of the one that I was importing
4. Instead of creating new Disks, I chose the .vmdk files extracted
5. Started the VM up

Re: Unable to import .ova-File from IPVA with VirtualBox
The procedure detailed by Robert still works with new 13r1 release of the IPVA.

I just wanted to note for others reaching this post that following settings need to be adjusted on the newly created VirtualBox machine:

- System -> Enable I/O APIC
- All 4 disks in a single IDE controller worked for me. Be careful with order, screenshoot in previous comment is not the correct one.

Other settings in the VirtualBox can be left more or less as default.

Re: Unable to import .ova-File from IPVA with VirtualBox
Hello marcorcau, Hello Robert,

it took me quite some time, until I needed to use IPVA with VirtualBox again (and I got to reply to this thread ;) ).
I just wanted you to know, that the IPVA works fine in V12 and V13 on VirtualBox with your advice.

As marcorcau said, System -> Enable I/O APIC must be set, otherwise the machine will crash on startup with an exception.

Regarding the virtual disks, a single IDE-Controller works fine and I had no issues mouting them simply in order from one to four.

For anyone who is interested, attached there is a set of screenshots of my whole working configuration.

Thanks again for your replys.

Re: Unable to import .ova-File from IPVA with VirtualBox
Better you set Hardware virtualiation to Enable neted Paging if you want to reset the ipva via config reset or the appr. point in webgui.

Other settings cause an error here.
