web registration

When a PBX supports public users it is sometimes a good idea to offload user creation to the users themselves instead of having an administrator create all the users. In this case, the PBX can provide a web registration form which provides a double opt-in registration process.

WebDAV

:
Acronym for Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning. Based on HTTP, WebDAV provides file level access to the devices local CF storage.

WebRTC

:
Shortcut for Web Real-Time Communication

WebRTC is a W3C standard that defines how a VoIP media endpoint is to be integrated in to a compliant browser. It defines the codecs and protocols (SRTP, DTLS, ICE/STUN) to exchange media in a secure and reliable way with a focus on NAT scenarios. The media endpoint is controlled by an arbitrary Javascript HTML5 application running in the browser. WebRTC does not cover nor specify any signalling protocols. This is left up to the application.



WebSocket

:
WebSockets are extensions to the HTTP protocol. While normal HTTP connections always work synchronously (that is, the client sends a request and waits for an answer and so forth, WebSocket connections are bi-directional channels between a web application and a web server where both sides can send messages at any time asynchronously. These messages usually use the JSON format.

Wildcard certificate

:
A certificate includes a subject (e.g. www.innovaphone.com) which may be validated by the receiving client against the resource name used for the request to the server that delivers the certificate (e.g. http://www.innovaphone.com).

When a server provides multiple services however (e.g. www.innovaphone.com and wiki.innovaphone.com), it may be useful for the server to provide a wildcard in the certificate's subject (e.g. *.innovaphone.com which would match both service names). Such certificate is known as wildcard certificate.
