"hot desking" with softwarephone
Hi there Innovaphone forum members!
After having asked innovaphone presales, where they told me that no official solutions are implemented at the moment. I have been told to try asking the forum if some other partner have implemented some workaround for the following problem.

As everyone knows, the V13 softphone app doesn't work in terminal server enviroment. The official solution provided from innovaphone is to use softwarephone on the thin client and the Myapps phone app on the terminal server enviroment.

In some enviroments, the thin client is only a "stupid" client which only launches a session to the terminal server, and in my case we use computer with Windows embedded, where only a single windows user is configured.
Therefore, I can only have only a single configuration file for the softwarephone under the %appdata% folder.

Some customers has asked me if is possible to configure some "floating" workstation. What does it mean: a thin client where a user arrives, launches his session to the terminal server and uses the softwarephone with his user configured on the thin client. Then when the user ends his session, another (different) user arrives and this time the softwarephone should register to another user on the PBX.

Making this work with IP phones is simple. We have only to deploy hotdesking as documented by Innovaphone. But how can we do it with a softwarephone?
Did someone find a solution for this issue?

Re: "hot desking" with softwarephone
Hi!

Do your thin clients / terminals have the option to run a local web browser or to forward audio (speaker and microphone) between the terminal server to the client?
If yes, you could use it as a myApps softphone without using the Windows app.
("local web browser" is what we use in an environment with Linux terminal servers/clients for myApps and video conferencing)

Alternative ideas which we have used in an older PBX system: Users are actually groups (waiting queues) and dummy user accounts can join these groups for making/receiving calls. With Innovaphone you could use the profile app to log in for receiving calls and the 3rd-party effexx sendnumber to select the number for outgoing calls. Not very comfortable, but quite flexible.

Thomas

Re: "hot desking" with softwarephone
Hi Thomas,
thank you for you reply. The first solution you proposed is not applicable for this case, as the Windows user session is not accessible by the end user. It's only used to launch the TS session.
I think I didn't fully understand the second suggestion. I know "sendnumber" but I can't get how exactly would you implement it. How does it work with internal calls? Which display name will be signalled to the users called by the operator working on the thin client?

Re: "hot desking" with softwarephone
Hi Matteo,

the sendnumber app only works for outgoing calls to external numbers.

Implementation would be something like:
- There are WQs "User A" and "User B"
- There are PBX users "Workstation 1" and "Workstation 2"
- If User A sits at Workstation 1, he logs into his WQ "User A" using the "Workstation 1" MyApps client to receive calls to his number
- If User A wants to call an external number, he uses the sendnumber app to select the number he transmits
- If User A leaves Workstation 1, he needs to remember to log out from the WQ, otherwise he would receive calls for the next user.

So if User A calls User B, User B will see a call from Workstation 1 and can reach User A by calling back Workstation 1, but will not know who has called.

Yes, this is cumbersome and I would recommend it only as a workaround until a better solution is found.

Best regards,
Thomas

Re: "hot desking" with softwarephone
Hi Matteo,

Be a little bit patient or test it with the V13R3beta4 Firmware!

It is possible to run the RCC App in a browser on the TS environment and control a Softphone on any other device (Windows PC, Smartphone, Tablet) in your local Environment.

Add in the Users Object an additonal Hardware-ID with the same Hardware-ID as your Softphone Proceeded with rcc- (like rcc-SwPh_kpennings_60801dc2)
Name it like RCC-Softphone App rcc
Open the RCC-Softphone App in your Windows TS environment and start the call on your Softphone on another device.

Any feedback is appreciated in the Beta Forum.

Karl

Hello Karl

Any update about v13r3beta4?
Because the function "run the RCC App in a browser on the TS environment and control a Softphone on any other device" is very interesting.

For the moment the customer use the softwarephone in local environment and use the phone app to control it. And we have some problem of audio with internal call ...

Thanks

Hi Karl,
thank you for the info, sounds really interesting. I will keep it in mind for the future, but I cannot afford deploying a beta on this customer.

Hello Matteo,

if it is just a softphone function, we could offer a terminalserver compliant solution, which has a UI on terminalserver side and phone function on client side with automated configuration through user login.

So far, this can only work with Rangee Thin Client. Maybe its worth to try it.

Best regards,

Ulrich

Hi Ulrich,
who are "we"? are you a 3rd party developer?
Are you proposing me a solution which implies extra costs for the customer? Because at the moment I'm quite sure he will rather not buy any new product/license.
Best regards,
Matteo
