Acronym for Mutual Transport Layer Security
a.k.a. Mutual TLS

MTLS provides for mutual endpoint authentication. Both ends of a connection exchange certificates from a mutually trusted certification authority (CA). The certificates prove the identity of each endpoint. Used for federation for example.
