RTP

:
Acronym for Realtime Transport Protocol. Defines a packet format to carry audio (e.g. VoIP) and multimedia data over IP. Both H.323 and SIP use RTP for the media channel. This allows SIP and H.323 terminals to communicate with each other, provided there is a signaling gateway performing the call signaling protocol conversion from SIP to H.323 and vice versa.
